FAQs

  • How to Play

    Objective

Roll dice combinations to score more points than your buddy over 13 turns.

    Gameplay

A turn starts with a player rolling all five dice. The player may then set aside or "hold" any number of dice and reroll the remaining dice, or he/she may stop rolling and score the current dice. (It is legal for a player to reroll all five dice. It is also legal to reroll dice previously set aside or held.)

After the third roll, the player must find a score combination in which to place their dice (though he/she can choose to score the turn after one or two rolls).

Example: Ana rolls a 1–3–4–2–2. For her second roll, she decides to keep the 2s and reroll the other three dice. She rolls 4–4–6, so she now has 4–4–6–2–2. She has already scored a Full House, so for her third roll, she decides to keep the 4s and reroll the other three dice. She rolls 1–4–4 and now has 4–4–1–4–4. She decides to score a Four of a Kind.

Each player has 13 turns during the game. After each turn, the player must enter a score in one of the rows on the score sheet. A player's total score is calculated by adding together all 13 score boxes.

It is likely that some roles will not match an available combination. In this case, the player must mark a "0" in one of the available combinations.

    Create a Game

You have five options for creating a new game:

    1. Play with Friends by inviting them through Facebook or an SMS invitation

    2. Random Buddy connects you with someone else who is looking to play right now

    3. Rematch a buddy whom you have previously played

    4. Search for a friend by entering his or her With Buddies Username

    5. Play with a buddy sitting nearby using Local Play, which allows you to pass the same device between two people

    Scoring

    Upper Section

In the Upper Section of the scorecard, each combination includes the total number of dice dots that match that number. For example, if a player were to roll three twos, the score would be recorded as 6 in the twos box.

Upper Section Bonus: If a player scores at least 63 points across all of the Upper Section combinations, a bonus of 35 points will be added to the Upper Section score. (It should be noted that 63 points corresponds to Three of a Kind for each of the six Upper Section combinations.)

    ONES

    Score: Sum of all Ones

    TWOS

Total of all dice that show two dots

    Score: 50 points

    CHANCE

Any combination of dice. This often acts as a discard box for a turn that will not fit into another combination, although during a lucky game, it can be used to record a high score.

    Score: Sum of all dice

    Five of a Kind Bonus

Once you have scored a Five of a Kind, each additional F of a Kind in that game will award you 50 additional bonus points.

Once you roll an additional F of a Kind, you can place your score on the scoreboard in its appropriate cell. Once you place your score, a "+50 bonus" badge will appear above the cell. You will see your 50 bonus points included in your Upper Section total, Lower Section total, and over all totals.

If you place multiple Five of a Kind bonus points in a cell in the Upper Section, those points will not count toward your Upper Section bonus.

If you have already placed a 0 in your F of a Kind cell, you are not eligible for the additional bonus points.

    Bonus Rolls

    What are Bonus Rolls?

A Bonus Roll is simply a chance to roll one extra time on any given roll. It's a fun addition that we've added to the classic game.

How many Bonus Rolls do I get?

One (1) Bonus Roll is given free to each player at the beginning of each game. Each player can use his/her Bonus Roll on any turn after he/she has rolled three times. It's a fun way to get one more chance at that important score combination.

What happens to my free Bonus Roll if I don't use it during my game?

If you don't use it, you lose it! The free bonus roll doesn't carry over between games.

How do I get more Bonus Rolls?

Additional Bonus Rolls can be purchased from the With Buddies store, which can be accessed by tapping "Account Settings" on the Main Menu.

Purchased Bonus Rolls can be used in any game and do not expire. Only one Bonus Roll can be used on each turn. Every player, whether he/she has purchased Bonus Rolls or not, will receive one free Bonus Roll per game, which is used before purchased Bonus Rolls.

For example, if you purchased three Bonus Rolls, you could use two in one game and one in another game.

What is the number in the circle in the Bonus Roll button?

This number indicates how many Bonus Rolls are available to you for all your games. Remember, this includes both the free Bonus Roll (if not already used during that game) and any purchased Bonus Rolls.

Why do I see a higher number than one (1) on my Bonus Roll button, but I can only use one Bonus Roll each turn?

Only one Bonus Roll can be used on any turn. We don't want folks to just keep hitting the Bonus Roll until they get Five of a Kind on every roll. That wouldn't be fun!

    Nudging

If someone you are playing against hasn't taken a turn in at least 24 hours, you will be presented with the opportunity to "Nudge" them. Nudging them will send them a notification requesting that they play their turn. It can only be sent once per 24-hour period, and only if they have not played their turn. Sending your buddy a message in your game's chat room will also send them a notification.

  • Tournaments

    Basics

Tournaments roll! Flex your dice-rolling muscles and compete against thousands of fellow “Dice With Buddies” enthusiasts for the chance to win your weight in Bonus Rolls.*

*Weight of individual Bonus Rolls may vary. For actual prize amounts, consult the Tournament Information page.

    Schedule

Tournaments can run over the course of a single day or multiple days. Tournaments begin at 2:00 a.m. Pacific Time and lock out at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time, meaning that you can no longer enter that day’s tournament. During the two-hour window between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., you can finish a tournament that you entered prior to the 12:00 a.m. cutoff. Once 2:00 a.m. arrives, any unfinished tournament games are automatically expired and do not count toward any prizes.

Weekly Tournaments, which run over the course of a weekend, are held every weekend (Saturday and Sunday), and follow the same time schedule as the Daily Tournaments, beginning at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, locking out at midnight on Sunday, and ending Monday at 2:00 a.m. Once 2:00 a.m. arrives, any unfinished tournament games are automatically expired and do not count toward any prizes.

Monthly Tournaments, which run over the course of a week, are held during the last complete week of every month, and follow the same time schedule as the Daily Tournaments, beginning at 2:00 a.m. on Monday, locking at midnight on Sunday, and ending Monday at 2:00 a.m. Once 2:00 a.m. arrives, any unfinished tournament games are automatically expired and do not count toward any prizes.

    Prizes

For each tournament, there will be one lucky grand-prize winner, who will collect a mammoth number of bonus rolls. This number will vary depending on what type of tournament (Daily, Weekly, or Monthly) is being played, with Monthly Tournaments awarding the greatest number of Bonus Rolls, and Daily Tournaments awarding the fewest. A select few runners-up (up to hundreds) will make the Winner’s Circle, and receive a healthy number of Bonus Rolls. Hundreds or thousands of other users will receive an Honorable Mention Prize, also in the form of Bonus Rolls.

    Entries

For each tournament, all Dice players will receive AT LEAST one free entry. Players can purchase additional tournament entries with Bonus Rolls. Entry costs vary depending on tournament type and payout. Daily Tournament entries cost the least to enter.

    Standings Page

The Standings Page is the core of the Dice With Buddies Tournament experience.

At the top of the page, you’ll find information about the current tournament, such as what type it is (Daily, Monthly, or Weekly), what the Grand Prize is, your current tournament high score, and the scores to beat for the Grand Prize, Winner’s Circle Prizes, and Honorable Mention Prizes.

Below the information, you’ll find the ENTER button if a tournament is running, or a timer counting down to the start of the next tournament. To enter a tournament, click the green ENTER button in the center of the page. If you’ve not yet used your free entry, you’ll be taken right into the tournament. If you have, you’ll be reminded how many Bonus Rolls your entry will cost, and then you can confirm your tournament entry purchase.

Below the ENTER button are links to the Leaderboards and My Tournaments pages, as well as a condensed version of the My Stats page and a link to the full My Stats page.

    Leaderboards Page

The Leaderboards Page provides a fuller picture of the currently running tournament.

The Global Leaderboard tab shows a list of all the current leaders, as well as their scores. To find your spot in the rankings, hit the My Ranking button, and you’ll be taken to your current place. There is also a small ENTER button, which allows you to enter the currently active tournament.

The Friends and Buddies tab shows how you rank against your Facebook friends and Dice Buddies in the current tournament. If enough of your friends and buddies compete and you beat them all, you will win a prize. The size of the prize varies depending on the type of tournament and the number of friends you’ve beaten. The more friends who play that tournament, the more Bonus Rolls you can win, so invite away!

    My Tournaments Page

The My Tournaments page lists the most recent tournaments you have participated in, and includes information such as your high score, your final rank, and how many Bonus Rolls you’ve won. On each tournament there is a trophy button you can press to see in greater detail how you finished.

How do I end my game early?

You can forfeit on IOS devices by tapping the red forfeit icon in the top-left corner of your screen while you’re viewing the Score screen.

On Android devices, you can forfeit by tapping the Options button on your phone and then choosing “Forfeit” from the list of options shown.

How do I remove old completed games?

Once you finish a game, you can remove it from the Game Over section by either: finding the completed game you want to delete on the Main Menu and swiping your finger to the right OR tapping Edit at the top of the Game Over section and clicking the red button next to the games you want to delete.

What happens if my buddy stops playing?

If it is not your turn, and your buddy neglects to play the game for a given number of days (5–7), your buddy will automatically forfeit. At that point, it’s time to break out the champagne; this counts as a win for you!

"I installed the app on my device but it's nowhere to be found!" (iOS)

By default, iPhones store the most recently installed applications on the farthest right screen. Swipe from right to left until you reach the final screen. If it has successfully installed, your app should be there. You can also search your device for the app by swiping from left to right. This will bring you to the iPhone search screen, where you can enter the name of the app for which you're searching. If it is installed, you should be able to find it. If you still cannot find it after taking these steps, go into iTunes on your computer and look for the app. If it's not there, it did not successfully install, and you need to go back to the App Store and download the app again.

If you've installed the app on your Android device but can't seem to locate it, you may need to check your Application Manager to confirm that the app was successfully installed.

You can do so by going to your device's settings, locating the Application Manager, and then checking the "Downloaded" list to see if the app has installed properly. If you see the app on the list, please double check your Apps pages to see if you missed it previously. If you don't see the app on the list, please go to the Google Play Store and download the app again.
