Scopelean Spotlight: Hana Lee

For our next batch of our Scopelean Spotlight, we are celebrating leaders from our five Employee Resource Groups (ERG): Women @Scopely, Early Careers @Scopely, Pride @Scopely, Black @Scopely, Mind Matters @Scopely.

Meet Hana Lee, our senior director of product management. She is based out of the Culver hub and is a leader for our Women @Scopely ERG.

Say "hello" to Hana.

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.
I'm Hana Lee, senior director of product management at Scopely on an unannounced strategy game.

What does diversity in gaming mean to you?
There are 2 levels of diversity for me. First is the obvious, which is the outside appearance. The second is the diversity of thought and ideas, which are gained through your experience and environment. As game developers, we must embrace both in order to not only let the best idea win but also to represent the players that we serve.

Which Scopely culture tenet resonates most with you?
ITERATE TO GREATNESS. It’s difficult to choose just one, but ITERATE TO GREATNESS really represents the commitment that I have for our game and our players. As we are in a free-to-play space, we must exercise humility in that what we know today doesn’t reflect what we'll know tomorrow. Our game is only really 80% complete at any time; the last 20% is something we strive to deliver based on players' feedback and the competitive landscape. Therefore, we're constantly iterating and getting better as we strive to make the game that will delight our players for years to come.

What advice would you give to someone working in your field?
For someone working in my field or on a dev team, especially as a minority, please do not feel intimidated or shy about reaching for that greater adventure. Representation matters. Join me in paving the way for future generations and realizing that dream for a wider group of game devs and players.

What was the last good book you read?
The last book I read that inspired me was “Untamed” by Glennon Doyle. The book's message about accepting one's true self and being courageous to free oneself from the 'shoulds' of the world and instead just being 'am' was powerful.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I'd love every Scopelean to consider joining one or more ERG(s) not only to represent but also to show up as allies. Also, I'd like for my fellow Scopeleans to sign up for the mentorship program that will be available to all ERG members next year. Stay tuned for the details!
