In this Scopelean Spotlight, we are continuing to celebrate our exceptional Black Scopeleans and elevate their voices for Black History Month.
Meet Kenny.
Kenny Akande, a talent acquisition pro at Scopely, sat down with us to tell us a little bit about his background, his journey to where he is today, why he loves being part of the Talent Acquisition team and why having good communication skills is key!
Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.
I was born and raised in Liverpool, U.K. - home of the Beatles and the best football team in the world, Liverpool FC - but currently, I am living and working in Dublin, Ireland. I am working on the recruiting team as a Senior Talent Acquisition Partner and have been at Scopely for just over three years now - time flies!
What are you currently working on, and how does your work impact our players?
I am always working collaboratively with different hiring managers to help scale their teams, but currently partnering closely with Strategic Analytics & the Slate Development Group. I love that I work with hiring teams that want to hire exceptional diverse talent to Scopely and want to enable them to have the best experience of their professional careers.
What does diversity in gaming mean to you?
Diversity in gaming means a lot to me personally, because I have always loved gaming in my pastime, so to now work for a company that not only makes games for all, but also wants to have talented diverse teams is amazing. I also love that being a part of Talent Acquisition means that we play an important role in this mission!
Which Scopely tenet are you the most passionate about?
PLAY TO WIN. I like the line in the Play to Win tenet in which it mentions supporting one another to bring our best to all that we do and ensure every teammate is empowered to succeed. We all win together and have fun doing it!
What advice would you give someone working in your field?
The best advice I could give to somebody in my field and many others is to have excellent communication skills - be clear, concise, polite and transparent! Good communication has helped me improve my personal and work relationships and productivity.
What song are you currently listening to on repeat?
I cannot get enough of Steve Lacy's latest album Gemini Rights. It has been on repeat for the last couple of months! “Bad Habit” is the most well-known and obvious pick from the album, but I honestly love all of the tracks.
